The Western Australian coast is a unique and diverse place extending over 20,000 kilometres. The WA coast is a dynamic risk prone environment and our most contested space. There are pressures on the coastal zone for land use and development for a variety of purposes including a mix of recreational, residential, industrial and commercial uses. Planning for the coastal zone is about balancing these often conflicting uses.
The Department of Planning undertakes a range of activities to support the implementation of State Planning Policy 2.6.
